A nursing home in Arthur, Illinois is set to close before the year’s end, forcing residents and their families to quickly find new accommodations.

According to a letter obtained by WCIA, Arthur Home issued a formal 90-day notice of discharge due to its impending closure. The facility cited ongoing financial difficulties attributed to “insurance companies and neglect by the State of Illinois and local hospitals,” which have made it impossible to continue operating.

“This decision has not been made lightly and is the result of careful consideration of our current financial status,” staff said.

Previously, WCIA reported that The Arthur Home faced a $25,000 fine for violating state and/or federal regulations related to nursing homes. An Illinois Department of Public Health report indicated staff failed to properly supervise a resident with dementia, known to roam the facility.

This oversight resulted in the resident leaving the building unnoticed and unsupervised during the night, being exposed to 21-degree Fahrenheit temperatures, and subsequently falling in the mechanical room where a chemical was improperly stored.

on the resident,” the report reads.

With the discharge notice, staff added that they will work with residents to transition them to a new care setting.

In response to the upcoming transition, the facility’s social workers, nursing staff, and administrative team have pledged to assist residents in finding suitable new placements based on their medical needs, personal preferences, and individual circumstances. “We understand that relocation can be challenging and emotional, and we are dedicated to assisting you throughout the entire process,” they stated.

WCIA reached out to the Arthur Home for further information, but has not heard back yet.
