A Michigan man who was a guest at a pool party where he allegedly stabbed four people, two of them fatally, has been charged with murder.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office revealed in a press release that Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, was arrested and charged in relation to a violent stabbing incident on Aug. 9 resulting in two fatalities. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated that a disagreement between Hopson and an unidentified 40-year-old man intensified in the backyard of 31-year-old Jakirea Williams’ residence. As tensions rose, Hopson allegedly “produced a knife” and repeatedly stabbed the 40-year-old man.

Following the purported altercation moving to the front yard of the home, Williams reportedly tried to intervene. Hopson allegedly stabbed Williams, 25-year-old Martisha Payne, and another 31-year-old man. All four individuals who were stabbed were transported to the hospital, but only two survived.

Worthy reported that Hopson fled the location after the alleged stabbing incident. He was apprehended on Aug. 15. Local Fox affiliate WJBK noted that due to Hopson being on parole for an assault charge with intent to inflict great bodily harm, he was detained by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Prosecutors indicated that Hopson will be arraigned in Detroit on charges that include two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.

Worthy commented in the press release, “What commenced as a friendly gathering of family and friends, marking the end of summer, turned deadly with four people being stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries. A disagreement. A swift escalation. The introduction of a lethal weapon. And then multiple deaths. So senseless. So tragic. And so very violent.”

Hopson’s arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
