Sen. Welch: 'RFK Is a Lunatic' — Should Be Fired

Thursday on MSNBC’s “All In,” Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) called Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy a “lunatic,” declaring that he should be “fired.”

Commenting on the removal of the CDC director, Chris Hayes asked, “What’s your take on what’s currently occurring at the CDC?”

Welsh responded, “It’s truly alarming. There are two sides to this story: one is uplifting, and the other is deeply concerning. The positive aspect lies in the employees who resigned to support their director, who was advocating for scientific integrity and public health. The troubling side is that RFK is obstructing progress in public health. He questions the scientific foundations of vaccines, which is setting us back by decades.”

Hayes said, “Do you believe he should be fired and or resign?”

Welsh continued, “He ought to be dismissed or step down, and indeed, he should have never been appointed in the first place. Interestingly, he misled Senator Cassidy. Many were skeptical, didn’t accept his claims, but Senator Cassidy, a well-regarded colleague and a physician, questioned Kennedy on his stance regarding vaccines. Cassidy sought assurances that the review system would be preserved, a parallel system would not be created, and science would be respected. Kennedy gave responses that satisfied Cassidy. Cassidy trusted him, but now, Kennedy is completely betraying Senator Cassidy’s trust.”
