Kyle Myvett earned the title of “Cape Coral’s Greatest Detective” after aiding police in an early morning burglary arrest.
CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man in Southeast Cape Coral is the newest face to don the title of the Caped Crusader, but in a more comfortable way.
The Cape Coral Police Department, stated in a Facebook post that officers responded to a burglary in progress early Wednesday morning.
Police report that when an officer arrived at the scene, they encountered a curious scenario that could impress even The Riddler: the burglary suspect had already been apprehended by a neighbor dressed in Batman pajamas.
The neighbor, Kyle Myvett, explained to police that he received a notification from his security cameras about unusual activity outside his house. Still in his pajamas, he went outside and discovered the suspect had broken into his truck.
Myvett recounted to police that shortly afterwards, he noticed the suspect in his neighbor’s garage and swiftly acted to detain the suspect until the authorities showed up.

The suspect, who police identified as Justin Schimpl, had previously been on law enforcement’s radar due to prior investigations.
Schimpl claimed he was accompanied by someone else during the incident, but police noted that his accomplice’s name kept changing. Despite both aerial and ground searches, no additional suspects were located.
Detectives say that Schimpl had allegedly stolen the following:
- Two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, valued at $300 each
- Cash
- A woman’s wristlet
- More than $500 in gift cards
Schimpl faces charges of two counts of burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, two counts of petit theft under $750, and one count of burglary of an occupied structure.
Currently, Schimpl is being held at the Lee County Jail.
