Storm Team 3: A rainy Labor Day Weekend is expected, drier for next week

Friday afternoon in Savannah, GA, was marked by cloudy skies with occasional spotty showers. This weather pattern kept temperatures cooler than usual, ranging from the upper 70s to lower 80s.

More rain and mild temperatures are in the forecast for Labor Day Weekend.

A storm system traveling through the Southeast is expected to bring moisture to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Anticipate a wave of showers, with occasional storms, on Saturday afternoon continuing into the evening. Some rainfall could be heavy at times.

The heaviest moisture is predicted to gradually leave the area by Sunday and Labor Day. As a result, expect more dry periods with scattered showers and temperatures in the mid 80s.

For the short workweek, a drier and slightly warmer weather pattern is expected. Temperatures are forecasted to rise closer to average, reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s, with rain chances diminishing to 20-30%.

It is possible that rain chances will drop off all together for late next week.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

In the tropics, a tropical wave is anticipated to move off the coast of Africa late this weekend. The National Hurricane Center has given it a 30% chance of development as of Friday evening.

The environment supports slow development as it moves west-northwestward across the Atlantic.

There is no threat to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry at this time.
