A new study suggests that a simple dietary swap could dramatically boost heart health.

Our ancestors had it right, with a 10-to-one ratio of potassium to sodium from their fruit- and vegetable-heavy diets.

But because of modern, processed foods, that balance has flipped to a troublesome one to two.

A recent study from the UK indicates that a significant portion of the population is at risk of potassium deficiency, which can lead to an increased likelihood of heart failure and mortality.

The silver lining is that potassium aids in eliminating salt from the bloodstream. You can easily address this by eating a banana, incorporating spinach into your meals, or adding avocado or nuts to your salad.

Yoghurt, tuna and even baked potato will also increase your potassium levels.

Previously, it’s been all about cutting the salt, now it seems passing the potassium is just as important in preventing strokes and heart attack.
