Girl shot and killed in firearm mishandling incident

BRUNSWICK, Ga. () — A 14-year-old girl from Brunswick was shot and killed in a firearm mishandling incident Saturday night.

At approximately 8 p.m., police responded to a residence at the 2700 block of Altama Avenue in reference to a gunshot wound.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities discovered that a 14-year-old girl was shot by someone she knew inside the house. The suspect, 17-year-old Daquarius Wallace from Brunswick, accidentally discharged a firearm, resulting in the girl’s injury.

Wallace now faces several charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree child cruelty, illegal possession of a firearm by a minor, and reckless behavior.

An adult, identified as Bobby Sullivan, aged 21, was also present at the time of the shooting. Sullivan has been charged with second-degree child cruelty, possession of stolen property, reckless conduct, and encouraging minor delinquency.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed by officials. The Medical Examiner’s Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is set to perform an autopsy.
