Man drags Lake Wales officer, K9 through parking lot while fleeing arrest, police say

LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) — On Sunday, a man was taken into custody after allegedly evading a traffic stop and causing harm to a Lake Wales officer and his canine partner during the incident.

The Lake Wales Police Department reported that shortly before 8 a.m. on U.S. Highway 27, an officer tried to stop a vehicle traveling more than 30 mph above the speed limit.

Authorities stated that 36-year-old Marlon Arrindell initially pulled into a Chevron gas station at 900 W. Highway 60. However, when the officer attempted to detain him, Arrindell resisted.

According to LWPD, the officer deployed his canine partner, K-9 Bolo, to assist, but Arrindell managed to get back into his car and speed away, dragging both the officer and the dog through the parking area.

The officer and K-9 Bolo were treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Other officers later found Arrindell about a mile west on East Bay Boulevard. He attempted to escape on foot, endeavoring to scale a tall barbed wire fence and sustaining injuries in the attempt.

The Lake Wales Police Department apprehended Arrindell, charging him with driving on a suspended license, fleeing to elude, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, violently resisting arrest, harming a police canine, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
