Blue city’s bail policy lets professional bad guys terrorize community with ‘no constraints’: police veteran

A former chief detective from Chicago expressed criticism towards no-cash bail policies, which he believes undermine urban policing. This discussion follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order prohibiting such policies.

“Across any location implementing no-cash bail, the situation is disastrous,” Trump stated to the media prior to enacting the order on Monday. “It began with poor political decisions, initiated by ineffective governance. The central issue is no-cash bail. An individual commits homicide, yet is back on the streets without bail by the day’s end.”

He specifically mentioned Chicago as a city that has been hit hard by no-cash bail policies.

In a tragic example from 2019, Fabian Diaz, then 17, was charged with a gang-related killing shortly after being released on a juvenile gun possession charge, CWB Chicago revealed.

Diaz reportedly stepped out of a vehicle and fired at a 47-year-old man, killing him.

No-cash bail is hurting morale among Chicago’s police officers.

It completely demoralizes them,” remarked Roy. “They arrive at work with the intention of doing their job well. They’re constantly restrained by numerous limitations and closely monitored.”

“They’re experienced professionals and they comprehend the situation, but it still impacts them,” he continued. “It’s something that preoccupies their thoughts. Self-doubt creeps in. In dangerous situations, the last thing we need is second-guessing from our officers.
