The freshman linebacker was found hurt by deputies and taken to a hospital on Sunday night.

TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida State University football player was hospitalized after being injured in a shooting.

On Sunday night, Gadsden County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting in Havana, a location just outside Tallahassee, according to an official Facebook post.

They found linebacker Ethan Pritchard, who was brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to a statement from university officials, the 6-foot-2, 224-pound freshman from Sanford is in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit after sustaining a gunshot wound. Officials reported that Pritchard was visiting family in Havana at the time of the shooting.

Pritchard did not play in Florida State’s season opener, a 31-17 victory Saturday over No. 8 Alabama in Tallahassee.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

Anyone who has information related to the investigation is encouraged to call 850-627-9233, contact Big Bend Crime Solvers at (850) 574-TIPS, or submit a tip online via their P3 Mobile App or website.
