Top ten most expensive Premier League transfers ever: Liverpool break record for second time with Alexander Isak signing

The Premier League has had its most expensive signing record broken twice in one transfer window – and both deals have been done by Liverpool.

Alexander Isak has officially transferred to Liverpool from Newcastle, setting a new British record for transfer fees. This move concludes a prolonged summer saga, as the striker leaves St. James’ Park for Anfield.

Earlier in the summer, Florian Wirtz’s £116 million transfer to Liverpool set a new record, taking over from Chelsea’s previous high when they acquired Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115 million in August 2023.

However, this record will now fall to third on the all-time list. Chelsea also holds the fourth-highest transfer record after signing World Cup champion Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £106.5 million.

Historically, Manchester United has been known for leading spending in English football, with former player Paul Pogba once being the league’s most expensive signing.

However, that all changed in the summer of 2021 when Manchester City bought Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Man City did hold the record after spending £100million on England maestro Grealish, but now that deal has slipped down the list.

Arsenal’s acquisition of Declan Rice for £105 million makes him the priciest British player ever, although he still ranks below the two Chelsea signings and Liverpool’s latest additions in historical records.

So, Isak will top this list once his move goes through, but who makes up the current top ten?

Here, talkSPORT.com looks at who has cost the most in English top-flight history.
