DES MOINES, Iowa – On Monday night, the numbers were drawn for a projected $1.1 billion Powerball jackpot, though it’s not immediately known if there’s a winner.
The numbers drawn were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53, with the Powerball 5.
The grand prize, which has remained unclaimed since May 31, has grown to an impressive $1.1 billion, marking it as the fifth-largest in Powerball’s history. Rising ticket sales prompted officials to set Monday’s jackpot estimate at $1.1 billion before taxes. Winners can receive the prize as annual payments over 30 years or take an immediate cash payout of $498.4 million, both options subject to taxes.
The chance of selecting all six winning numbers is incredibly slim: just 1 in 292.2 million. The likelihood of being struck by lightning is actually higher. Yet, with many hopeful participants willing to try their luck for a massive windfall, eventually, someone hits the jackpot.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and the game is available in 45 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings occur thrice weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings.
