Suzanne’s brother calls Barry Morphew ‘soulless predator’ with 'no redemption' as judge weighs bail request

Suzanne Morphew’s brother had harsh words for her husband, Barry, as his defense team plans to fight for a reduced bail amount.

In June, a Colorado grand jury brought new murder charges against Barry Morphew after an unsuccessful attempt to prosecute him in 2021. Morphew is accused of murdering his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who was 49 years old when she disappeared on Mother’s Day in 2020. At that time, the couple resided near Salida, Colorado, which is the last place Suzanne was reportedly seen.

A court session is arranged for Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, where defense attorneys plan to discuss the matter of bail. Barry Morphew is currently detained at the Alamosa County Jail with bail set at $3 million. He’s facing first-degree murder charges after premeditation.

Barry Morphew was apprehended on June 20 near Phoenix, Arizona, by the Arizona Department of Public Safety officers. Records show that he was staying at a trailer park in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Moorman wrote that he sometimes lays awake “many nights pondering the last few minutes of my sister Suzanne’s life.”

“Once struck by the BAM-ladened dart, it’s hard to fathom the terror she experienced while trying to flee,” he expressed. “With each heartbeat, the chemical accelerated its invasion into her system, similar to what happened to numerous deer her now psychologically unhinged companion had hunted. Her screams, tears, and pain were visible manifestations as her body started to detach from her spirit and soul.”

Colin McCallin, a lawyer from Colorado and former deputy district attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado, told Fox News Digital he would be astonished if Barry Morphew’s bail is lowered.

“Honestly, I’d be extremely astonished if bail was approved in this situation. Originally, the bail was determined thoughtfully and with intention by the judge overseeing the case at $3 million. There typically needs to be a significant, palpable change in Barry Morphew’s situation for the judge to reconsider that decision. I just don’t see that happening here,” McCallin stated.

Though Suzanne Morphew went missing in 2020, agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation found her remains on Sept. 22, 2023. According to prosecutors, a 2024 autopsy report showed a deer tranquilizer called “BAM” was found in her bone marrow, which stands for the chemicals butorphanol, azaperone and medetomidine.

Suzanne Morphew, 49, went missing May 10 after leaving her Colorado home to go on a bike ride, her husband, Barry Morphew told authorities. In a phone interview with local media, Barry Morphew said authorities are trying to blame him for his wife’s disappearance after bungling the case.  (Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office)

Prosecutors said Suzanne Morphew’s remains were found “in and around a shallow clandestine grave” in Saguache County, Colorado, a “few hundred feet” off Highway 17.
