A family of stray dogs from Far North Queensland, dubbed the “Furwins” due to their encounters with crocodiles, have been rescued and relocated to the Gold Coast.

The mother, named Terri, and her pups were initially spotted by locals while struggling to survive in the remote region.

Remote Animal Assistance (RAA) intervened to rescue the dogs, finding Terri in a critical condition.

Following emergency treatment, the dogs were transported to the Gold Coast, where Terri is now recovering in foster care.

“Stray dogs often encounter challenging circumstances, yet they excel at adjusting and persevering,” stated Animal Welfare League’s rehoming manager Mikaela Thrift.

“Terri had pyometra and required emergency surgery which RAA provided for her before she got down here and that surgery saved her life.”

While Terri and most of her pups have found homes, one pup named Roberta is still seeking a permanent family.

“She is looking for someone to take her under their wing and guide her, do puppy school but she is very, very sweet,” Thrift said.
