A man is facing a murder charge over his friend’s death after Texas authorities allege the two men took turns shooting at each other.

Sean O’Donnell, 46, was taken into custody last week after an incident occurred at his home where his friend was shot in the head, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Deputies arrived at the residence on August 17 and discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The man, Aaron Prout, was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to Gonzalez, the incident was first believed to be a suicide, but “things weren’t adding up” upon further investigation.

Prout and O’Donnell allegedly put on a Kevlar helmet and took turns shooting at each other with a rifle.

On Thursday, O’Donnell was formally charged with murder in connection with Prout’s death. Court documents indicate that a $300,000 bond was established for his case, yet he still seems to be in detention as of Tuesday morning.

A public defender represented him during his court appearance. NBC News has reached out to the Harris County Public Defender’s Office for comment.
