ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WLS) — A former employee of a youth center in Illinois is facing charges of misconduct after being accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with an inmate, according to officials on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said the incidents happened in November at the Phoenix Emerging Adult Career and Education Center in Saint Charles.

Bryana Phelan of Chicago has been charged with 15 counts of misconduct, officials said.

According to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Phelan engaged in social activities with a male in-custody youth, over the age of 17, including having multiple phone conversations and driving him around in a facility vehicle for personal reasons beyond her work duties. Furthermore, it’s alleged that Phelan had a sexual relationship with this youth, which included making multiple offensive or sexually explicit phone calls, attempting to perform sexual acts during a phone call, and facilitating, encouraging, and observing the youth engage in masturbation in her presence.”

Phelan was ordered to appear in court September 18.
