NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) — The Naperville 203 Board of Education and the Naperville Unit Education Association have officially signed a new contract.

The groups reached a tentative agreement last month, averting a strike date that was planned.

The new Naperville teachers contract is for four years.

“Our top priority has always been to provide students with the quality education they truly deserve. This agreement allows us to continue fulfilling that mission,” stated Charles Cush, the president of the Board of Education, last month following the tentative agreement. “It underscores our commitment to ensuring that Naperville 203 remains an outstanding school district for both students and educators.”

“We are immensely thankful to our students, families, and the entire community for their unwavering support during this challenging period. We couldn’t have achieved this without you,” said NUEA President Ross Berkley last month after the tentative agreement was reached. “We are pleased to announce that we’ve secured a tentative agreement that respects our students and educators while maintaining the high standards of excellence we uphold in District 203.”

Teachers went back to work last month without a contract after months of contract talks.

Berkeley said the last time Naperville teachers actually hit the picket lines was back in the early 90s for just a few days.

The main contention point had been teacher compensation.
