HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Ga. () – Excitement is building as United Way of the Coastal Empire

The 2026 campaign begins. This significant fundraiser has been a pillar of our community for years, with numerous leaders, nonprofits, and volunteers from across five counties coming together to support various programs.

The Savannah Convention Center is set to be lively today with over 700 attendees united by a common ambition: to generate funds and backing for the Coastal Empire. This event transcends a mere luncheon; it’s the beginning of a fundraising initiative that has aided countless residents over the years.

Central to the occasion is United Way’s community fund, which fuels essential services ranging from early literacy initiatives to emergency assistance. This year’s campaign slogan, “join the journey,” emphasizes addressing the region’s critical needs. A highlight of the day will be the unveiling of the fundraising goal—something the organization has never disclosed at a kickoff before. Organizers are hopeful that today’s energy will sustain the fundraising efforts in the months ahead.

“The theme ‘join the journey’ for this year’s campaign has been exciting. It’s truly a call for our entire community to unite and support each other, reflecting United Way’s mission,” stated Kimberly Waller, CEO of the United Way of the Coastal Empire.

The kickoff luncheon is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Savannah Convention Center, with Ryan Chandler, Chief Commercial Officer of Colonial Group, acting as this year’s campaign chair.

Additionally, local leaders will be honored with the Craig Harney Spirit of Philanthropy Award. United Way CEO Kimberly Waller emphasizes that this kickoff is not just an event but a rallying call for the whole region. For those unable to attend personally, a notable campaign video will debut during a 5:30 p.m. broadcast today.

United Way’s efforts have reached over 200,000 people across the coastal empire – and that’s just the beginning. Leaders tell me over 100 businesses and community groups are involved this year. If you’d like to help, you can go to United Way’s website to learn more, donate, and volunteer.
