Volusia Sheriff arrests man after P.I.T. maneuver

Sheriff Mike Chitwood says the driver will be charged with multiple felonies.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — A man was arrested on Wednesday after a high-speed chase in Port Orange resulted in a P.I.T. maneuver by the Volusia Sheriff.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook that a man named Christian Will Ottinot, 24, attempted to escape from the Port Orange Police Department. The reason for their initial interaction remains unknown at this moment.

Police say that Ottinot had “swerved through traffic, ran red lights and hit 118 mph up and down I-95”.

Following Ottinot’s run past the Williamson Blvd. overpass on I-95 heading north, Sheriff Mike Chitwood joined the pursuit and used a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.) to stop Ottinot’s vehicle, leading to his arrest.

Sheriff Chitwood expressed hope that when a judge reviews the case and sees the bodycam footage of the involved officer, it will “create a compelling narrative” against Ottinot.

Otinott is charged with fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, and a “Florida Super Speeder” violation.

Sheriff Chitwood P.I.T.

When a driver fled from the Port Orange Police Department, swerved through traffic, ran red lights and hit 118 mph up and down I-95, he put everyone on the road in danger.

His reckless ride came to an end this morning when Sheriff Chitwood executed a P.I.T. maneuver and took him into custody.

Christian Will Ottinot, 24, of Broward County, is charged with fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, and a Florida Super Speeder violation along with numerous criminal traffic citations.
