SANFORD, Fla. – When the Seminole High Seminoles stepped onto the field in their orange and black uniforms on Friday night, one jersey captured everyone’s attention: the number 9 jersey of Ethan Pritchard.
The team captain wore Pritchard’s number 9 jersey for the coin toss. Coaches, fans, and his family were also wearing his number.
A freshman linebacker at FSU and former Seminole High student, Ethan was injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Havana, Florida, over the weekend. His family reports that he was wrongly identified as someone else while taking a loved one back home near Tallahassee.
Pritchard was shot in the head.
“Ethan excelled both as an athlete and a student here at the school,” shared Seminole High School Principal Michael Pfeiffer. “He was just a great person to be around. Clearly, it’s a tragic event, and we wanted to come together to honor Ethan, our number nine, and offer all the support we can.”
A GoFundMe page for Ethan and his family, started by the ‘Noles’ coach, raised over $100,000 in just two days.
The Bokey boosters club is also selling t-shirts to raise money for Ethan’s recovery.
