Victoria Police have announced that the unprecedented $1 million reward in the search for alleged law enforcement officer murderer Desmond Freeman is intended for information leading to his capture, not necessarily his conviction.
The reward is the largest ever offered in the state.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas conveyed that all possibilities regarding Freeman’s location remain under consideration, describing this incentive as “just another avenue” in their pursuit.
“This could include sightings of Freeman, chatter within your communities, or even odd occurrences on your premises – whatever it might be, we urge you to inform us,” Thomas stated.
“I also wish to emphasize to the public that if you encounter Freeman, it’s crucial to contact emergency services immediately. This provides police with the best opportunity to apprehend him.”
“Freeman has taken the lives of two individuals and injured another, making it extremely vital for us to bring him into custody promptly and safely – and we hope this reward facilitates that.”
Authorities remain open to the possibility that Freeman is still alive or could potentially be dead as a result of self-harm.
They hope this reward for information leading to his arrest will be an incentive.
More than 450 officers are dedicated to the search each day with “no talk” of reducing those numbers, Victoria Police said.
