A fire has destroyed a historic wedding venue in Sydney’s north-west overnight.

Emergency services were dispatched to The Loxley on Bellbird Hill in Kurrajong Hills around 7pm yesterday evening following reports of a blaze in the primary reception area of the venue.

Fire services worked to extinguish the blaze; however, the main building was destroyed, with nearby buildings also damaged.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 10.30pm but remained on scene into the morning to control spot fires in the debris.

“The main building, due to its construction being old and wooden, was beyond saving despite our efforts,” stated Deputy Captain Phillip Hurst, who was among the initial responders at the scene.

Police are still investigating the cause, although it is not currently being treated as suspicious.

A 40-year-old man is currently in hospital after suffering burns to his face while attempting to extinguish the fire.

The Loxley on Bellbird Hill in Kurrajong has been the place where countless couples have tied the knot for decades.

The fire leaves the wedding plans of future couples hoping to wed at the venue up in the air.
