A man in Memphis, Tennessee, is accused of beating up his own dad because the elder man told a friend of the younger’s he was indeed his father.

An arrest affidavit indicates that 32-year-old Miguel Gomez Jr. faces charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and domestic assault. The incident transpired on August 10.

Miguel Gomez Sr. was at home with his son on the 2800 block of Randy Cove in Memphis, Tennessee, when Miguel Gomez Jr. allegedly questioned him about whether he had informed a friend that he was his father. The affidavit states that Gomez Sr. confirmed he had done so, which reportedly infuriated Miguel Gomez Jr.

The court document describes how Gomez Jr. allegedly punched Gomez Sr. in the mouth with a closed fist, leading the father to flee outside the house. However, the alleged assault continued.

The son reportedly caught up with his father and struck him again, as per police accounts. Subsequently, the defendant allegedly slammed his father to the ground and started dragging him across the pavement.

“Gomez Jr. then wrapped his arm around Gomez Sr.’s neck from behind and squeezed until he could not breathe,” according to the affidavit.

During the incident, a man identified as “Gonzalo” was driving by and witnessed the event, according to authorities. This witness reportedly shouted at the suspect, causing him to “momentarily release his grip.”

Still, Gomez Sr. was not freed – so the victim “bit” his son near the chest, enabling the father to stand up and run to his truck. From there, the victim drove to a nearby police station, where he delivered his account of events.

The elder man had cuts on his mouth, an abrasion to his arm, and swelling to his head, the affidavit states. He identified his son as the attacker.

Miguel Gomez Jr. was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Aug. 17, and assessed bond of $200,000 for the charges against him.

The defendant appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday of this week, where a judge granted the state’s motion to revoke his bond, local CBS affiliate WREG reported.
