The Royal Family paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II on Monday – the third anniversary of her death.

An image of the monarch shared on the Royal Family’s official social medic account was accompanied by a short but poignant caption.

It read: ‘Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022.’

The sweet photo of the late monarch showed her smiling as she sported a royal blue ensemble.

The late monarch died aged 96 at Balmoral in Scotland, after a life as Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

All of Her Majesty’s children made their way to Balmoral that pivotal day after receiving news that doctors were ‘concerned’ about her health. Mere hours later, she passed away, with her family by her side.

At 6.30pm on September 8, 2022, her death was confirmed.

A representative from Buckingham Palace announced: ‘The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral for the evening and travel back to London tomorrow’.

In the wake of his mother’s passing, the new king, Charles, expressed: ‘The passing of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, brings immense sorrow for me and the entire family.

‘We deeply mourn the loss of a treasured sovereign and a much-cherished mother. Her absence will be keenly felt across the nation, the Realms, the Commonwealth, and by countless individuals globally.

‘In this time of grief and transition, my family and I will draw comfort and strength from the widespread respect and profound affection that was held for the Queen.’

After Her Late Majesty’s death, the country entered 10 days of national mourning which concluded with her state funeral on September 19.

During that period, the Queen’s coffin was placed at rest in Edinburgh Cathedral, before being transported to Westminster Hall in London, where approximately 250,000 individuals stood in line for hours to pay their respects during the lying-in-state.

Today, her loved ones are paying their respects, with well wishers taking to social media to share their thoughts on the image shared by the Royal Family social media team.

Thousands of comments showed of their ardent admiration for ‘inspiring’ Elizabeth, many admitting they ‘cannot believe’ it’s already been three years since her tragic passing.

One wrote: ‘Can’t believe it’s 3 years.’

‘She was the best queen,’ another penned.

A further poster lamented: ‘The world has not been the same since we lost its presence of continuity.’

‘Still remember hearing the news,’ another added. ‘It felt the world stopped for a moment as we took in the news.’

A further Instagram user said: ‘Things don’t seem quite the same without her.’

The Queen’s death came more than a year after that of her beloved husband Philip, her ‘strength and guide’, who died aged 99 in April 2021.

Since his funeral, where she poignantly sat alone because of lockdown restrictions, her own health faltered, and she was forced to miss an increasing number of events mainly due to ‘mobility problems’ and tiredness.

In July of 2022, she travelled to Scotland for her annual summer break, but cancelled her traditional welcome to Balmoral Castle in favour of a small more private event because of her health, believed to be linked to her ability to stand.

And at the end of that July, the then-Prince Charles represented his mother and opened the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with the then-Duchess of Cornwall. In late August Queen missed the Braemar Gathering – the first time she was not at the Highland Games in her 70-year reign.
