The White House revealed to the Daily Mail that the blue object Donald Trump put in his mouth at the U.S Open was a mint.
A photograph has gone viral showing the president with a mysterious blue pill in between his teeth at the Sunday tennis match.
‘It was a mint,’ a White House official told the Daily Mail when asked about the viral photo.
The photo was taken while Trump attended the elite tennis match in New York on Sunday.
Donald Trump’s presence at a major sporting event resulted in a delay for the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz due to enhanced security measures.
While sitting in the stands, the president, 79, was photographed by Andres Kudacki biting down on the blue object.
Trump is seen smirking, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt right behind him.
Speculation exploded online, particularly from X users, about a blue pill Trump was seen with, with some developing elaborate theories about his health. Others suggested it might simply be a blue Altoid mint.

The White House confirmed the object inside Trump’s mouth was a mint
Kudacki commented, ‘President Trump takes a tablet while watching the U.S. Open men’s final between Sinner and Alcaraz on Sept. 7, 2025, in New York.’
‘I was waiting for some reaction from him, he’s a big personality,’ Kudacki later told the Daily Beast. ‘He was very discreet.’
Users online still believe the mint may be a prescription poll or relate to Trump’s overall health.
Ed Krassenstein questioned his followers, asking, ‘What pill is Trump taking at the U.S. Open today? Why isn’t the media looking into his medical issues?’ as a photo started making the rounds online.
Some of Trump’s critics humorously guessed the pill might be Viagra or a similar product. Others noted it could be a Hygroton pill, which is blue and used for treating high blood pressure and fluid retention.
An AI assistant known as ‘GROK’ from X stated that, based on the photo and descriptions, the blue item in Trump’s mouth during the U.S. Open remains unidentified.
‘Speculation includes a mint (like blue Wintergreen Altoids) or a pill like Hygroton (for blood pressure/edema). No official confirmation exists, and the photographer admitted uncertainty.’
However, supporters of Trump were quick to point out the small little blue pill could simply just be a breath mint.

Speculation regarding Trump’s health has reached new heights in recent weeks after noticeable bruising to the president’s hand

The US Open was delayed due to security concerns for the president
‘It’s very possible—and even likely—that the object in the photo is a mint rather than a prescription pill,’ wrote conservative user Lorrie Ann on X.
‘The small, light blue, rectangular tablet visible between Donald Trump’s teeth or lips in the image closely matches the appearance of Altoids Smalls Sugar-Free Wintergreen mints.’
In recent weeks there have been concerns and theories regarding Trump’s health after the president was seen with bruise marks to his hand.
Last month, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump has been diagnosed with ‘chronic venous insufficiency,’ which is a ‘common condition’ in individuals over the age of 70.
Leavitt has said Trump’s hand bruising is ‘consistent’ with irritation from his ‘frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.’
In July, Trump’s swollen ankles were noticeable during public events at the White House. Trump’s staff attributed his swollen ankles to his chronic venous insufficiency diagnosis.
Following these concerns, Trump did not host public events at the White House for four days leading liberal critics to speculate he was seriously ill or even worse.
In reality, Trump spent time playing golf with his family away from the cameras for a few days.
