Dear Plex User,

Recently, we encountered a security issue that might involve your Plex account details. Although we suspect the actual repercussions are minimal, you need to take action to keep your account protected.

What happened

An unauthorized party accessed a small portion of customer information from one of our databases. We swiftly controlled the situation, but the accessed data included emails, usernames, and securely encrypted passwords.

Account passwords that may have been retrieved are securely encrypted following industry standards, which means they can’t be deciphered by outsiders. To be extra cautious, we advise you to promptly reset your password by visiting our site. Rest assured, we do not store credit card details on our servers, so that information remains safe from this incident.

What we’re doing

We have already addressed the method the intruder used and are conducting further evaluations to strengthen our system security against future breaches.

What you must do

We urge you to change your Plex account password immediately by visiting our site. While doing so, please select the option to “Sign out connected devices after password change,” which we recommend activating. This will log you out from all your devices (including any Plex Media Server tied to your account) ensuring your safety, and you’ll need to log back in with the updated password. We know this adds a bit more effort on your part, but it enhances the security of your account.

Additional Security Measures You Can Take

Remember, no one from Plex will ever contact you via email asking for your password or credit card information for payments. For extra account security, we also suggest enabling two-factor authentication if you haven’t done so already.

Lastly, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause you. We take pride in our security systems, which helped us quickly detect this incident, and we want to assure you that we are working swiftly to prevent potential future incidents from occurring.
