Dem who lounge on George Clooney's yacht announces election bid

Maryland Governor Wes Moore, who just last week lounged half-naked on George Clooney’s boat, has announced his reelection bid.

In a video released Tuesday morning, Moore announced his bid for a second term in the predominantly Democratic state, while also criticizing President Donald Trump.

He also touted his accomplishments, including a large drop in homicides in Baltimore, and addressing a budget shortfall.

Moore stated: ‘The president of the United States is catering to billionaires and large corporations, dismissing federal employees, slashing Medicaid, and increasing costs on essentials from electricity to groceries.’

‘I’m someone who takes action, and we are making rapid progress throughout the state and beyond party lines to show a stagnant Washington that there’s a superior path forward.’

He added that he is ‘not from that world’, while promising to improve public schools and end child poverty.

Moore was seen in exclusive Daily Mail pictures last week enjoying Lake Como in Italy with his wife Dawn, while staying at a villa owned by Clooney.

He has been engaged in a war of words with Trump over the president’s threat to send in federal law enforcement to clean up Baltimore.

Moore was spotted last week in exclusive Daily Mail photos enjoying Lake Como in Italy with his wife Dawn, while staying at a villa owned by George Clooney.

Last week, Trump remarked: ‘We have the right to do it because I am obligated to protect this country,’ adding, ‘And that includes Baltimore.’

Moore again insisted that since he is the commander in chief of the Maryland National Guard and that Trump has no right to federalize his troops.

Moore also criticized Trump’s description of Baltimore as a ‘hell hole’ and cited his military service as evidence of why he will be an effective advocate for Maryland.

‘When you’re coming after our people, people know that I’m a soldier, and I will fight for and protect our people, and that is all I’m doing.

‘This is not about trying to fight Donald Trump. This is about me fighting for Marylanders,’ Moore said.

Crime in Baltimore is indeed down, with homicides declining by 40 percent since 2020.

Baltimore has had 68 homicides this year as of July 1, which police said was a 22 percent year-over-year decrease.

Authorities also reported a 19 percent decrease in non-fatal shootings. Still, Baltimore had the sixth highest murder rate per capita in 2024 at 34.8 per 100,000 residents.

Last week State Delegate Mark Fisher spoke with Daily Mail about Moore’s sabbatical while adding that people in Baltimore still felt it unsafe enough to not walk the streets.

Fisher said: ‘You know it’s bad when you have a city that has a per capita crime rate that is equal to Kabul, Afghanistan.

‘The truth is the governor and so many people that are on his side will say Baltimore is just fine.

‘Any reasonable intelligent person can drive down to Baltimore, start walking around and wonder what’s going to happen, it is fundamentally unsafe.’

He also said Moore had effectively turned his back on the citizens, rather than let President Trump bring in the National Guard to clean up the streets.

According to Fisher, those across the political aisle in the state have also confided in him that Moore is ‘full of it’.

The governor admitted more needs to be done to tackle crime in Baltimore, but has dismissed the idea of sending in the National Guard.

Moore did invite Trump to come walk the streets of the city with him, but the president responded by saying he might ‘send in the troops’ instead.

Speculation was brewing that Moore was eyeing up a run for the White House in 2028, something which he shot down over the weekend.

He appeared on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’, and told Kristen Welker: ‘I’m really excited about going back in front of the people of my state and asking for another term.’
