MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Larry Uphoff and Vicki Angstmann, representing the Mahomet chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, joined WCIA’s Mitchell Rife to discuss an upcoming event.
This Saturday, the group plans to construct 80 beds at Lowe’s. The Mahomet chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace began a few years ago after receiving training in Utah. Originating from a garage in Idaho, the organization assists individuals who lack the means to purchase their own beds.
Since the chapter’s founding, they have provided 449 beds to children aged 3-17 throughout the community, with over 500 volunteers participating in their efforts.
Saturday marks Bunks Across America — a nationwide initiative for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The national goal is to create 10,000 beds for those in need, with Mahomet contributing 80 beds to this effort.
Additionally, to gather necessary resources for bed assembly, the Mahomet chapter is hosting a bedding drive on the same day. For more details or to volunteer, visit shpbeds.org.
