Authorities suspect that the individual charged with murdering a retired Auburn University professor ambushed her during a dog walk on Saturday, attacking her with a sharp implement multiple times.

According to Auburn police in Alabama, Julie Gard Schnuelle, 59, was discovered deceased in a wooded section of Kiesel Park, displaying signs of an assault. Harold Rashad Dabney III, 26, has been apprehended and faces two charges of capital murder related to Schnuelle’s death.

The Auburn Police Department announced in a news release that Dabney was detained on Sunday after a 8:30 a.m. report of a “suspicious person.” The release stated that detectives “made observations that led them to believe Dabney had involvement with the homicide.” Authorities noted that Dabney also took Schnuelle’s Ford F-150 pickup truck.

A spokesperson for the Lee County Coroner’s Office told Fox News Digital Schnuelle died of “multiple sharp force injuries.”
