Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was reportedly shot in the neck on Wednesday during a speaking event at a Utah college.
KSL has reported that a suspect was taken into custody after a shooting took place at Utah Valley University. Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was on campus as part of his “Prove Me Wrong” tour, where he engages in debates with audience members.
Former Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz told CNN that Kirk was answering a question about “transgender shootings” and “mass killings” when he was shot.
“At that moment, when the question was asked and he was engaging in the interaction, a shot was fired. I was watching Charlie. While I can’t confirm seeing any blood or him getting hit, I did witness him falling immediately backward to his left,” a witness stated.
No other injuries were reported. FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency is closely monitoring the incident, per NBC.
A university spokesperson told NBC that the shooting happened 20 minutes into the event.
Kirk’s condition is unknown. The Deseret News reported that the shooting suspect is an “older male.”
