CAPE MAY, N.J. – Humpty Dumpty took a big fall, and now police are hoping to crack the case.

A whimsical and colorful statue of the nursery rhyme character was forcibly taken from its spot at a miniature golf course in Cape May, New Jersey, on Sunday and left down the street.

Local authorities report they are searching for two men caught on video at Ocean Putt Golf around 4 a.m. The footage shows one suspect entering the course by scaling a fence, then rocking and pulling the statue until it was lifted from its base, after which he walked away with it.

The statue, depicting a smiling Humpty Dumpty with a large white head, red cheeks, a yellow bow tie, a blue jacket, and gray pants, was discovered several properties away. In the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty falls from a wall and cannot be put back together by all the king’s horses and men.

Attempts to contact Ocean Putt Golf were made through a listed phone number, while their Instagram page had previously featured the statue positioned above one of their holes earlier in the year.

Detectives from the Cape May police are seeking assistance from the public to identify the two men visible in various videos shared on the department’s Facebook page.
