How the gun that killed Charlie Kirk could have been broken down

Officials have provided limited details about the firearm involved in Charlie Kirk’s assassination, describing it as a high-powered, bolt-action rifle.

That’s enough for gun-safety authority Steve Wolf to offer a few observations.

For instance, Wolf mentioned that a .30-06-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle could be swiftly dismantled on the rooftop, where the sniper seemingly targeted Kirk at Utah Valley University.

“There are aftermarket accessories that would allow you to break this gun down,” he told “Banfield” on Thursday.

Also, this kind of long gun would not expel the spent cartridge after firing, Wolf said, if the shooter did not want to leave evidence behind.

Surveillance video released by authorities Thursday shows the shooting suspect jumping from a rooftop with a backpack or duffle bag.

When questioned about the rifle’s whereabouts, Wolf speculated, “It appears to be in the bag he’s carrying.” He noted that the complete rifle might have been hidden if the bag was sufficiently large.

Police recovered a rifle in a wooded area where the sniper fled.

“There are reportedly images of the weapon and various specifics about the firearm and its ammunition, including engravings and symbols,” the Utah Department of Public Safety announced Thursday evening. “Currently, we are unable to disclose more information about the contents of those engravings.”
