Erika Kirk, the wife of the late and controversial right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk, has broken her silence following his death earlier this week.
She expressed her appreciation to the authorities at local, state, and federal levels for their swift action in apprehending a suspect in connection to her husband’s murder.
Kirk, a supporter of Donald Trump, was delivering a speech at a university event in Utah on Thursday (Wednesday in the US) when he was fatally shot.
“I extend my condolences to all of my husband’s colleagues who have lost a dear friend and mentor.”
This week, Kirk’s remains were transported to his native Arizona via Air Force Two.
Vice President JD Vance assisted military personnel in transferring the casket onto the aircraft.
Mrs Kirk thanked Vance and President Donald Trump for their support since the shooting.
“You guys honoured my husband so well, bringing him home,” she said.
“You both are tremendous.”
Mrs Kirk was also accompanied on the flight by Vance’s wife Usha.
In a direct address to Trump, she said her husband and the US President had a mutual admiration for each other.
“My husband loved you and he knew that you loved him too,” she said.
“Your friendship was amazing. You supported him so well, as did he for you.”
