CHICAGO (WLS) — Raise a glass to a fresh tradition! This autumn, a blend of history and celebration kicks off as Old Town, Chicago’s pioneering German neighborhood, unveils its first-ever Old Town Oktoberfest on Wells Street from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 19-21.
Set to become the city’s newest fall tradition, the festival promises a vibrant fusion of Bavarian culture, local flavor, and community spirit.
ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch
The festival will take place in the 1300-block of North Wells, between Schiller and Evergreen, right across from Cobbler Square Lofts, the former location of the Dr Scholl factory. A $5 recommended gate donation aims to establish this as a recurring community event for everyone to enjoy.
Delight in bratwurst with sauerkraut, pretzels, potato pancakes, and fried cheese from a special Old Town Oktoberfest menu. Indulge in a taffy apple with pretzel, fudge, and funnel cake. Pair it all with Paulaner Munchen German Beer or hot spiced wine. This isn’t just a party; it’s an opportunity to bask in the lively community spirit of Old Town.
Attendees will be entertained with spirited performances including German inspired music, a brass band, polka, and Chicago’s best festival bands across various genres, encouraging dancing and singing all weekend. Additionally, catch the football games on a large outdoor screen and flex your muscles in Masskrugstemmen (stein-holding contests) to earn prizes and bragging rights!
For those looking for something more, the VIP experience provides a festival stein, beer, and bratwurst, along with premium seating, a deluxe restroom, and a full bar. It’s the perfect place for beer enthusiasts and festival participants wanting to celebrate with style. Get your tickets here: https://bucketlisters.com/experience/old-town-oktoberfest
“We are thrilled to present the inaugural Old Town Oktoberfest,” stated Marcy Huttas, executive director of the Old Town Merchants & Residents Association. “Early German settlers significantly influenced the cultural fabric of our neighborhood.
