Hundreds of runners gathered at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City, Tenn., for the second annual Iron Mountains Invitational on Saturday.

The event attracted participants from 65 schools ranging from elementary to high school. This cross country meet has become a highlight of the fall racing season, set against the picturesque Boone Lake backdrop in Johnson City.

David Nutter, who directs and organizes the Iron Mountains Invitational, shared that he envisioned the course two years ago before it became a reality. He pointed out that participation has increased in just its second year.

“The word got out last year that it was such a well-run meet,” Nutter said.

Nutter said he and his team already have plans for next year’s race.

“Our aim is to expand and enhance the event annually,” he explained. “We make adjustments and improvements, but this course and invitation will continue to grow significantly.”
