NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro agencies hope a new traffic management plan will make getting around downtown easier and safer.

This week marks the commencement of a pilot initiative by the Metro Nashville Police Department, WeGo Public Transit, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, alongside other agencies, which will be put into action every Friday and Saturday night in the downtown area.

The plan aims to make getting around Lower Broadway efficiently on weekends and game days when the Tennessee Titans play at home.

The initiative features the dedication of one traffic lane for emergency vehicles and designating a lane on 4th Avenue specifically for WeGo buses. Additionally, Metro will introduce the initial phase of bollards, or barricades, aimed at bolstering pedestrian safety.

Moreover, the Titans have introduced a scooter and bike valet service at games, allowing attendees to check in their equipment like a coat check service and retrieve them at no cost when leaving the game.

NDOT plans to use LiDAR technology to analyze the effectiveness of its new pilot program.
