Apple may stagger next year’s iPhones to make way for a foldable

We have just wrapped up the launch event for Apple’s iPhone 17, yet Mark Gurman from Bloomberg is already predicting what lies ahead for the tech giant. In his Power On newsletter, Gurman reveals that Apple intends to release at least 10 additional products either later this year or by the first half of 2026.

A few of these new offerings have already been anticipated, or are logical progressions. One example is the M5 iPad Pro, which seems more of a matter of timing than anything else. Rumors have sparked interest with the possibility of an additional front-facing camera designed for portrait mode use. This iPad Pro is expected to debut in October, potentially making it the first Apple device to feature the M5 chip, with subsequent launches of updated MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs slated for early 2026.

Gurman also mentions the development of a more affordable iPhone 17e, anticipated early next year. While the upgrades over the 16e might be modest, the notable change is the integration of the new A19 chip found in the iPhone 17 series. Updates are also predicted for the Apple TV and HomePod mini next year, with enhancements like processor upgrades and compatibility with the latest Siri and Apple Intelligence features. Similarly, the Vision Pro is set for an M4 processor update and enhanced headband, while more significant updates are planned for 2027.

The most intriguing item on the upcoming list is the much-speculated smart home hub, code-named J490. While initial rumors predicted its release last March, the device has yet to appear. Gurman now suggests a spring launch, marking a significant new product category for Apple, which has already laid substantial groundwork through the HomePod and iPad.

Concluding the lineup are AirTag 2 and two new monitors. The updated AirTags are expected to offer improved range thanks to a new wireless chip. Details on the monitors remain sparse, but the code names J427 and J527 hint at the possibility of two 27-inch displays. The Pro Display XDR and Studio Display are becoming a bit dated, as the Pro was released at the end of 2019.
