Crime Stoppers seeking tips on $1,400 retail theft in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the community to locate the individuals responsible for stealing two power washers from Champaign’s Home Depot last month.

The theft took place on the afternoon of August 21. According to officials, at approximately 12:15 p.m., one man diverted a store employee’s attention while another man moved the washers out of the store using a flatbed cart. They then loaded the items into what appeared to be a tan Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove away.

The stolen power washers were valued at $1,400.

Store surveillance cameras captured images of the suspects, which Crime Stoppers has shared. Both suspects are Black men; one has short hair with a beard and was seen wearing a black baseball cap, a green t-shirt, and blue sweatpants. The other has medium-length hair and was wearing sunglasses, an orange t-shirt, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or other crimes in Champaign County is encouraged to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers.
