CHICAGO (WLS) — A new protest is set to take place against the Trump administration’s immigration policies in Chicago, specifically targeting an ICE facility in Broadview on Friday.

Organizers say they plan to demonstrate weekly at the boarded up facility as long as ‘Operation Midway Blitz’ is underway.

Friday’s protest comes a week after video appears to show ICE agents using pepper balls on demonstrators outside this same facility.

The most recent ICE arrest, as far as ABC7 knows, occurred at Elgin Community College. Federal agents reportedly detained an undocumented student in the main campus parking lot.

The Trump administration has stated that their focus is on undocumented individuals who have a criminal record, but the exact details surrounding this arrest remain uncertain.

ABC7spoke with one student anonymously who says they are worried about this immigration activity making its way to college campuses.

“I feel like students should be allowed to feel safe and this should stop happening on college campuses,” the student said.

Dan Kernler, President of the Elgin Community College Faculty Association, expressed concern, stating, “Our campus community is deeply troubled today. College students and their families should not be torn apart simply for attending classes. Arresting students on campus causes lasting damage and is inappropriate for our community. Education and development thrive in an environment free of fear.”

ABC7 has reached out to ICE for comment on the student allegedly detained in Elgin but have not heard back.
