SAVANNAH, Ga. – Georgia and Georgia Tech maintain their unblemished records with thrilling victories over Tennessee and Clemson. Meanwhile, Atlanta manages a win in a low-scoring encounter with Minnesota, and Savannah State returns to action after an early-season break.
Here is everything going on with football around Georgia this week.
#6 Georgia vs Tennessee – The Bulldogs emerged victorious to stay undefeated at 3-0, after an early-season epic against Tennessee. The game featured a combined 85 points and 998 yards of total offense.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton was instrumental, contributing to three of Georgia’s five touchdowns. The junior completed 23 of 31 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns, and added 13 carries for 38 yards and a rushing score.
The Bulldogs now have the week off before facing #14 Alabama at home on September 27th.
Georgia Southern at Jacksonville State – The Eagles grab their first win of the season as they take down the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 41-34.
The offense was also propelled by running back OJ Arnold. The senior recorded 16 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, junior quarterback JC French contributed with 16 completions on 24 attempts for 191 yards and a passing touchdown.
Georgia Southern will look to keep the wins coming as they face the 0-3 Maine Black Bears on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Fans can catch the game on ESPN+.
#18 Georgia Tech at Clemson – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made a statement with a 24-21 victory over the #12 Clemson Tigers at home.
Senior quarterback Haynes King returned from a week two injury to amass 314 of Georgia Tech’s 358 total yards. King completed 20 of 28 passes for 211 yards and rushed 25 times for 103 yards, including a rushing touchdown.
Georgia Tech will stay home another week as they take on the 2-1 Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 4:30 on the CW.
Savannah State vs Miles College – The Tigers, coming off a 13-0 win two weeks ago, will look to keep the wins coming as they head on the road to take on the 0-2 Miles College Golden Bears.
Savannah State’s offense is currently averaging 279.5 yards a game, while the defense is holding opposing offenses to just over 227 yards a game.
Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium in Fairfield, Alabama.
Atlanta Falcons vs Minnesota Vikings – The Falcons get back to .500 on the year with a 22-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings in week two. Atlanta pulled away in the second half, scoring 13 points while shutting out the Vikings.
The only touchdown of the day was scored on a five-yard run by RB Tyler Allgeier, who finished the day with 16 carries for 76 yards. The Falcons’ running attack was the main success for the offense, accounting for 218 total yards. RB Bijan Robinson would finish the day with 143 yards on 22 carries.
Atlanta will now head on the road to face its second division rival in three weeks. The Falcons will head to Carolina to take on the 0-2 Panthers. Carolina is coming off a 27-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in week two.
