President Trump delivered a final tribute on Sunday at the memorial service of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who passed away on September 10 at the age of 31. Trump highlighted that Kirk’s influence will continue to impact American politics.

In his speech, which lasted over 40 minutes, Trump blended an eulogy for Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, with political commentary. He criticized the left for attempting to suppress the principles Kirk championed. Kirk was tragically shot while engaging in a scheduled event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, where he was meant to discuss differing political views with students.

Addressing approximately 70,000 attendees at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Trump remarked, “The weapon targeted him, but the threat was directed at all of us. Charlie was killed for advocating ideas deeply held by people here and across our nation.”

“However, the attacker didn’t succeed in his mission because Charlie’s message resounds louder now than ever, gaining strength and prominence.”

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged in Kirk’s death, which Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has called a political assassination.

Trump: Charlie Kirk was a ‘martyr’

Trump acclaimed Kirk, originally from the Chicago area, for establishing a movement that drew young individuals to conservative ideologies. He humorously contrasted Kirk’s approach of open dialogue with opponents to his own more aggressive style.

“Charlie didn’t harbor ill-will towards his adversaries; he wished them well,” Trump commented. “That’s where we differed. I hold a grudge against my opponents and don’t wish them well. I admit it.”

Like Trump, Sunday’s speakers highlighted Kirk’s faith and his traditional values, which included encouraging young people to start families. Erika Kirk will lead Turning Point USA as its CEO and chair.

The president predicted Kirk’s influence will not wane.

 “He’s a martyr now for American freedom,” Trump said. “None of us will ever forget Charlie Kirk, and neither, now, will history.”

In addition to the attendance of 70,000 in the State Farm Stadium, another 20,000 people were in overflow space and surrounding areas, a Turning Point USA spokesperson said.
