LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A tragic accident occurred at an intersection in Lee County on Sunday, resulting in the death of a woman and severely injuring three others, including a 7-year-old child.
According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), the crash occurred around 2:12 p.m. on Route 58 at the intersection of Burning Well Road.
The Virginia State Police (VSP) stated that a Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on Route 58 when it neared the intersection. According to the VSP, the Nissan couldn’t avoid colliding with a 2017 Lincoln that had entered the intersection from a stop sign.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. VSP identified her as 61-year-old Deborah Wires, from Rose Hill, Virginia.
A 7-year-old passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after also suffering serious injuries.
The driver and passenger in the Lincoln also suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
As of Monday, the crash remains under investigation.
