ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA)— The offensive line coach for UCF football died unexpectedly Sunday evening, UCF Athletics announced.

Shawn Clark, 50, died Sunday evening after experiencing a medical emergency on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

“Shawn was far beyond just a coach. He was an extraordinary individual, devoted husband, and father who had a profound care for his players and staff,” expressed UCF head coach Scott Frost. “The response from our players and coaches to the news this morning reflects Shawn’s character and the immense influence he had on everyone he encountered. He was greatly adored. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jonelle, and children, Giana and Braxton. We are committed to supporting them and will continue to hold them in our hearts and prayers.”

Coach Clark joined UCF in December 2024 after he was the head coach at Appalachian State, UCF Athletics said.

Clark also coached at Eastern Kentucky, Purdue, Kent State, and App State.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Shawn,” stated UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir. “He approached everything he did with passion, integrity, and a true love for people. Shawn’s legacy will live on, not only in the realm of football but also through the relationships he forged and the role model he was as a husband and father. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife and children during this challenging time.”

Coach Clark is survived by his wife and their two children.
