Lakeside teacher now on paid leave, termination recommended

COLUMBIA COUNTY () – Lakeside High School has provided an update to parents on Monday concerning the investigation into teacher Jerry Meitin.

Previously, the Columbia County School District revealed that Meitin allegedly made threatening remarks to a student and is reportedly no longer employed by the District.

Meitin is charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts after being accused of threatening to shoot students. 

In a new letter issued today, Lakeside High School confirmed that a recommendation for termination has been put forward. Despite this, Meitin remains on paid administrative leave while both local and district authorities conduct their investigation.

Dear Parents,

The notice was sent to clarify details about the ongoing investigation involving the teacher at Lakeside High School, as mentioned last week. While termination has been recommended, the teacher is currently on paid administrative leave during the investigation by local and district agencies.

This step aligns with the Columbia County School District’s standard operating procedures for

personnel matters.
