DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Police Department launched an investigation over the weekend after a bone was found in a park.
A bone was found Saturday morning in Ellsworth Park. According to Sergeant Andrew Brooks, a cleanup crew stumbled upon the bone and notified the police, suspecting it to be human remains.
Danville Police officers arrived at the location and handled the situation as if it involved human remains, initiating an investigation. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services were called in, and an archaeologist from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources later assessed the bone.
Brooks said the archeologist determined that the bone was an animal’s, and it did not originate from a human.
Brooks released no further information.
