DoorDash driver alerts police to hostage situation after delivering suspicious items

A DoorDash driver in Sweetwater, Texas, contacted the police after sensing something unusual during a delivery to a motel, leading to the discovery of a hostage situation.

The driver felt suspicious after delivering items to the Sweetwater Inn located on Georgia Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. The police acknowledged the alert from the driver but have not disclosed what was delivered.

Witnesses told local affiliates KTAB and KRBC the suspect had items like trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet, and more.

Upon arriving at the motel room, officers discovered someone being held captive. The individual was freed and subsequently detained due to an existing warrant.

Following a short standoff involving Sweetwater police and the Texas Department of Public Safety, the suspect was captured. He faces charges related to the hostage incident along with other warrants.

The authorities have only described the suspect as a male resident of Snyder, Texas. Further details, including his name and specific charges, remain undisclosed as of Monday afternoon.
