Several charities in the United Kingdom have decided to cut their affiliations with Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Prince Andrew, following the revelation of a 2011 email where she described Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted US sex offender, as a “supreme friend”.
In the communication, which was obtained by The Mail, Ferguson, familiarly known as Fergie, described Epstein as a “steadfast, generous and supreme friend” and expressed regret for her previous disowning of him.
The Duchess of York explained to Epstein that she had been advised to conduct a damaging interview about him earlier to safeguard her “career as a children’s book author and children’s philanthropist”.

During that interview, Ferguson promised to “never have anything to do with” Epstein again, referring to a $30,000 loan from the billionaire as “a gigantic error of judgement”.

Ferguson ‘humbly apologises’ to Epstein

But in her later email, Ferguson said: “I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. And I must humbly apologise to you and your heart for that.”

Ferguson, 65, has previously said Epstein gave her the loan to help her pay off her debts.
On Monday, at least six charities she had been a patron of confirmed that they had terminated her involvement following the email release, each thanking her for her past work and support.

Among the charities that have distanced themselves are the British Heart Foundation, Julia’s House children’s hospice, the Children’s Literacy Charity, a prominent food allergy foundation, the Prevent Breast Cancer group, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

What has Ferguson said about the email?

A spokesperson for Ferguson did not comment on the charities’ decision, having earlier stated that she sent the email to Epstein to mitigate the risk of him filing a defamation lawsuit against her.

Ferguson, who married Andrew in 1986 before the couple divorced a decade later, has since reinvented herself as an author, media personality and charity patron.
She has remained close to Andrew — whose elder brother is King Charles — and has stayed loyal to him after his public downfall over his own connections to Epstein.
