MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) – The Mahomet-Seymour football team found itself in a position which its not overly familiar with.

The Bulldogs began the year with two consecutive defeats against Morton and Morris. Instead of hitting the panic button, they bounced back with two impressive victories. In week three, MSHS overpowered Sycamore with a 45-16 win and later crushed Taylorville 69-27.

“What I am proud of is the way we’ve stayed the course,” remarked Mahomet-Seymour head football coach Jon Adkins. “We maintained positivity throughout the 0-2 start.”

Mahomet-Seymour required some of the players to emerge as leaders, especially since the team lacked many seniors. According to Adkins, several players have risen to the occasion.

“Beau Back, our middle linebacker, has been exceptional at orchestrating the plays and helping the younger players catch up,” noted Adkins, as he highlighted more players as well.

Now, the Bulldogs gear up for a difficult test with 3-1 Mt. Zion visiting for the Friday Football Fever Spotlight Game of the Week.

“We’re not trying to lose this game,” Back said. “It means a lot to us.”
