The occurrence of crime in Victoria has increased significantly, with over 85,000 more incidents happening in the last year, leading the police to deliver a stern warning to those breaking the law.
According to Victoria Police, there were a whopping 638,640 criminal offences recorded in the 12 months leading up to June 2025. This marks a rise of 15.7 percent or 86,587 additional offences compared to the previous year.

The tally of criminal incidents also rose by 18 percent, reaching 483,583, which is the highest since crime statistics began being compiled in the 2004-2005 period.

The bail figures relate to bail decisions made across police and courts.

Moreover, bail requests to the Magistrates’ Court saw an 18.4 percent increase over the past year, due to a higher number of bail denials and cancellations.

Unsentenced receptions to Youth Justice increased 35 per cent in the past 12 months.

However, this remains below the 10-year peak in 2020.

“This initial compilation of bail statistics from several agencies is a preliminary move towards comprehending how bail or remand choices affect a suspect’s progression through the justice system and potentially lead to more crimes,” stated Fiona Dowsley, the chief statistician at the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA).
