Community Spotlight: Illume Counseling and Wellness Center

NATAYLA BOURN from the Illume Counseling and Wellness Center visited WCIA’s Mitchell Rife to discuss how seasonal shifts impact mental health.

Bourn explains that many people encounter seasonal depression during this time of year, a depressive condition often emerging in the fall and winter months. This condition leads to feelings of low mood and diminished motivation.

Signs of seasonal depression in individuals include noticeable sadness, frequent low spirits, and increased eating, especially if these behaviors are not typical for them during spring and summer.

It is advised for those experiencing seasonal depression to spend more time outdoors during daylight, use light therapy boxes that simulate sunlight, go for drives, engage in physical activity, and maintain a healthy diet.
